Thanksgiving RCMS Style

So you’re probably thinking that this article is going to be about the story of Thanksgiving, but it’s not. Thanksgiving isn’t just about old traditions, it’s about making new one’s. I hope you use these ideas and traditions to add to your own.

When I interviewed Mrs. Kim, a science teacher. She told me that she always spends thanksgiving with her sister. She also added that they have to make two turkeys for the 30 or more relatives that come over. Mrs. Kim described her Thanksgiving as almost a family reunion. This seems to be the holiday which her entire family gets to see each other.

I also interviewed one of the math teachers here at Carson, Mrs. Carr. She said that her Thanksgiving varies each year but she usually spends it with her immediate family and parents. The day after Thanksgiving she does a “turkey trot” or thanksgiving run. Then her kids run in the gingerbread man mile in the Reston Town Center. So if you’re in Reston on the 25th you might see her!

I searched pinterest and found two projects that I thought you might enjoying working on. First is the thanks jar.

For this diy you will need:img_1857-600x800

  • Wood craft sticks
  • mason jar
  • “chalkboard” sticker
  • White marker
  • Sharpie
  1. Write ‘give thanks’ on the sticker with the white marker and put it on the jar.
  2. Take the lid off of the jar and put at least 12 of the wood sticks into it.
  3. Put a sharpie next to the jar
    1. If you’d like you can decorate the sharpie with tape

Now your family members can write something they’re thankful for on one of the sticks and you can share them during thanksgiving dinner.

Review:

If did this again I would use a smaller jar so that the sticks come out of the jar.

The second diy is chocolate pilgrim hats.img_1065-559x640

Ingredients:

  • Fudge striped cookies
  • Reese’s peanut butter cups
  • White frosting
  • Brown m&ms
  1. Put frosting on the top of the Reese’s.
  2. Flip your cookie over and stick the reese’s in the middle.
  3. Put frosting on the circumference of the Reese’s.
  4. Put an m&m on the frosting.

Review:

Light on the frosting, It can be overpowering.
