Food aid organization in Herndon works to meet Covid demand

During Covid, more families don’t have enough money for nutritional meals. Food banks all around the country are serving 55% more people than before the pandemic. Feeding America, with an office in Herndon, is working to meet that demand, while also starting a fund to help communities of color that were impacted by COVID-19.

Feeding America says it is the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in America, having helped 46.5 million people since 1979. Feeding America has 2 million volunteers working every month to help stop people from going hungry.

They get the food to make their meals from farmers, manufacturers, retailers, and from donations. Feeding America has 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries helping collect food.

According to Feeding America, 1 of 6 families in the U.S. are facing hunger today. Every dollar donated equals 10 meals to families.
