Carson singers take the stage for District Chorus

Rachel Carson students sang at Washington Liberty High School from Feb. 11-12 for District Chorus for the first time in two years.

Twenty seven students from Carson were selected for two choirs. The two choirs were SSA (soprano, soprano, alto) and mixed chorus (bass, tenor, alto, soprano). The directors were Jessica Irish and Amy Moir. There were two soloists from RCMS, seventh-grader Bethany Lindorf and eighth grader-Anya Vargheese.

The SSA sang five songs:

  • “One Voice” by the Wailin’ Jennys
  • “Cantate Domino” by Paul John Rudoi
  • “Tres Cantos Nativos dos Indios Kraó” by Marcos Leite
  • “No One is Alone” by Stephen Sondheim
  • “I Sing Because I’m Happy” by Georgia Mass Choir

The Mixed Choir also sang five songs:

  • “Tue Tue,” which is a Folk Songs from Ghana
  • “Dona Nobis Pacem” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  • “Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around” by Rollo Dilworth
  • “Winds of Winter Blow” by Steve Kupferschmid
  • “Shine Like Stars” by Pinkzebra

The singers rehearsed for seven hours on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and five hours on Saturday from 8 a.m-1 p.m., for a total of 12 hours in two days. Their final performance was from 1-3 p.m. on Feb. 12.

In 2021, the singers recorded themselves at home, and all the videos were combined to give a chorus effect, so this was the first time in two years that these students could sing together in person.
