As it’s getting closer to winter break, RCMS kids are getting excited.

“I can’t wait for winter break, especially being with my family,” said Collins Han, 13, of the Dolphins team.

Food

Food is a big part of Christmas. There are many different dishes people like to eat. Here is what some kids at Carson eat on Christmas.

Collins is a pescatarian so her Christmas dinners may look different than others.

“We try to include everybody,” Collins says.

Collins’ Christmas Eve  dinner includes ham, sashimi and fried oysters. On Christmas morning Collins’ family all help out in the kitchen to make cinnamon rolls.

“We make cinnamon rolls every year — it never changes,” she says.

Travel

Traveling over the holidays is a very common and fun thing to do. Here are some of the interesting places Carson kids go to for Christmas.

Melanie Chavez, of the Explorers team, goes to Japan every year for Christmas.

“I love going to this super fancy restaurant called Kozue to get the best onigiri,” Melanie said. “I [also] love the cafes in Tokyo — they are each unique in their own way.”

Melanie also enjoys trying something different from the food carts at Disneyland there and buying Disney Funko pops.

“The treats at Disneyland in Japan are so good. I love trying new things so I enjoy this a lot,” says Melanie.

Delilah South, 13 of the Champions team, goes to Arkansas every other year and visits her Grandma.

“On Christmas morning we make cookies and then we open presents and we eat,” Delilah says.

Natalia Costa, 13 on the Champions team goes to the Outer Banks with her family and friends  for Christmas. They go to their friend’s beach house. It is too cold to go in the ocean so they go in the hot tub. They have done this since she was 3 years old.

“It is my favorite tradition — I love playing with our dogs on the beach,” Natalia says.

Family traditions

There are many ways families celebrate Christmas. Here are some different traditions for RCMS students.

Cailin Moorstein, 13 of the Champions team, enjoys getting in the Christmas spirit with her family. They put on their matching Christmas PJs and watch the movie “Elf.”

Cailin says, “It’s so fun when I hide the elf on the shelf for my brother to find.”

Cailin and her family always take family photos on Christmas day.

Shelly Bercovich, 13, of the All Stars team, is Jewish but still celebrates Christmas in her own way.

“We open a bunch of presents and have brunch,” says Shelly.

Shelly will spend her Christmas this year by going to New York with her family friends. Christmas in New York is truly magical, she said.

Gifting

Gifting is an important part of Christmas and many kids do it a different way.

Delilah South, 13, of the Champions team says, “We open one gift on Christmas eve and it really gets our excitement up.”

Delilah’s family on Christmas opens their gift smallest to biggest. It’s one of her family’s gift traditions.

Cailin says, “We open stockings first then we eat breakfast then we take pictures of our matching pjs.”

Cailin’s hoping to get a vanity for her makeup.

Collins says, “We open one present on thanksgiving, and then on Christmas morning we open stockings first then presents.”

Collins is hoping to get new clothes, ultra mini Ugg’s, and pit vipers.
