Madelyn Lawrence, a seventh-grader on the Majestics team, practices running for the Panther Prowl.

On May 18, RCMS plans to host and sponsor the 2023-24 school year Panther Prowl.

Similar to previous years, this year’s Panther Prowl will include a 5k run/walk, a raffle, and snacks for sale.

To sign up, go to the email Mr. Riley Barrows sent to everyone on the April 18 post. Then will immediately be entered in a raffle.

“There’s going to be a lot of different things,” Mr. Barrows said.  He also said there may be a gift card.

The Panther Prowl will be held at Rachel Carson and will be from 8-11 a.m.

Sophia Gibney, a seventh-grader on the Legacy team, plans to go to this year’s Panther Prowl. This will be her first Panther Prowl and her family will be joining with her. She says they are very excited to be going.

“I have been training for one week and I have been running around my neighborhood,” she says.

Sophia has also been doing the afterschool track at Carson to prepare the last couple of weeks also.

“I like to run shorter distances, not super long distances,” she says.

Sophia has run 5ks before in elementary school, but she says they have gotten easier over time.

For the 5k there was a T-shirt competition. The winners were Blaize Craddock, of the Trailblazers Seventh-grade team and  Eliana Elias of the Legacy seventh- grade team.

“It was super exciting,” Eliana says, “It took me 4 hours in total, but I had  breaks in between.”

Eliana won the front side of the shirt, she was super surprised she won. Eliana said she got her inspiration from searching former T-shirt 5k ideas and sketching them on pieces of paper.

You can get these shirts when you sign up for the Panther Prowl and will get a shirt when you arrive.

Ms. Susan  Miles, the Majestics English teacher, shares that she has been to the event more than 10 times and is looking forward to coming this year.

“It’s fun to see everyone’s kids.” she says.

Ms. Miles says she has lost count of how many times she has been. She does remembers that she used to go with her little kids who are now all grown up. She also says it is important for the school and community to do things that isn’t always school related.

“It’s fun to see each other outside of school,” she says. “It’s good to encourage, talk, hangout and be silly!”
