The RCMS theater is producing “Treasure Island” this year on May 9-10, directed by our new Theater Arts teacher Mr. Mic Harmon.

Traditionally, RCMS does a play during the fall, and a musical during spring. This year, there is a new teacher, Mr. Harmon, directing this year’s play, “Treasure Island.”

“It’s been a really fun process,” said Mr. Harmon. “The group of actors for the show are really talented.”

Mythili Tripuraneni, eighth-grader on the Dream team, is the assistant stage manager for the play.

“I think the cast is really talented,” she said.

The play “Treasure Island” is developed from a common childhood story by the same name. The story is about a 12-year-old boy, Jim Hawkins, who sets off on an adventure to find the long lost treasure of Captain Bill. In this year’s play, Captain Bill is played by Rithik Samanthla, an eighth-grader on the Explorers team.

“I personally like this play because of the variety of characters,” said Rithik. “This makes it an enthralling play-making it enjoyable for all families!”

The starring role of this play, Jim Hawkins, is played by Emry Lepsch.

“It’s exciting to be the main character,” she said.

For the past 25 years, the musical’s have been directed by Mr. Bickford. Mr. Bickford left RCMS after the first semester.

“Before I came to RCMS, I directed college students,” Mr. Harmon said. “I was nervous coming in, but I got into a comfortable flow really quickly.”

Many students in the play this year didn’t do the spring musical last year.

“I didn’t have Mr. Bickford last year since I only moved into school this year, but Mr. Harmon is definitely a really nice and responsible teacher,” said Rithik.

Mythili was in last year’s musical, “Freaky Friday,” which was directed by Mr. Josh Bickford and Ms. Christen Reddig, the chorus teacher.

“It’s different that we are doing a musical this year, but I’m happy that we’re having a production,” said Mythili.
