Towel service goes mostly unused

Towel service is an amenity that was available at the start of the year for $10, but few students knew it had started at the beginning of the year, causing a mix up.

Towel service’s main purpose is to try and get kids to be more comfortable during gym and wipe off, PE teachers said.

Towel service has been around since the start of the year. Students only have to ask for a towel from one of the teachers in their office in the locker rooms, a message many students did not receive.

Mr. Demitri Kappatos, P.E department chair, said, “We sold 47 towel services.” Out of the total number of students at RCMS, that is a very low number.

“I think it’s a good program, like during gym class things happen and towels are needed,” said Arohi Vamshi, seventh-grade, Legacy.

While our school had this program going on, some students had complaints about never seeing the towel service be put to use.

A result of the mix-up, Arohi said, “Since the parents paid $10 for their children to get towels and it’s already the middle of April and that hasn’t happened yet — I think it is a little disappointing.”

Another complaint came from Alice Jane D’Souza, a seventh-grader from All Stars, who said, “Isn’t that kinda like scamming? Like you paid $10.”

But towel service has been around, just not very well known to the students like in past years.

“It worked beautifully when we were dressing out before Covid,” said Mrs. Lori Molnar, health and physical instructor.

“Come to me or anyone in the office,” said Mrs. Molnar. “Please come use the towels.”
