On Sept. 16, the iOS 18 update came out for iPhone users, for iPhone 11 and higher, along with some other models.
Many RCMS students have iPhones, and a new update means a lot of new changes and upgrades.
According to the Apple website, some of the more significant features include more home screen customization, a new AI, automatic photo organization, and app locking, which requires face identification to open.
Some more new features are that you can schedule messages to send later, new stickers, you can swap out the lock screen controls, and you can edit the display of your apps by changing the color to match your home screen background.
This can affect students because the face lock could be used for more personal apps, and this can protect their personal apps from others who might get their phone, and could also keep them from being monitored. Another reason that this could affect students is that now, there are math notes, and the calculator app has been updated.
Along with that, there are more highlighting options, and Siri can solve math problems for you, just by writing it down on your device.
You can also do the following:
- Create personalized routes on the maps app
- Airdrop money
- Transcribe and summarize audio on command
- Get AI-generated summaries and tables of contents
- Download specific routes for offline use
There is also a new feature called “eye tracking,” and you can use your device with just your eyes.
These are just some of the many features of this update, and the update for the mail app will be coming soon.
This update also requires quite a bit of storage.
