Donald J. Trump, the president-elect for the 2024 election just took office on Jan. 20, on Capitol Hill, Washington D.C., 31 miles from here. The whole nation is watching and waiting to see what happens.
The inauguration, which made Donald Trump the 47th president of the United States of America, making a political comeback like never before.
The 2025 inauguration was held in the Capitol Rotunda, due to freezing temperatures dropping in the single-digits. This is the first time the inauguration has been held inside since Ronald Reagan in 1985.
Many famous people attended the inauguration. Before his inauguration, Trump announced that he had a “very good” phone call with Chinese president Xi Jinping, and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng attended the inauguration. This is the first time that a Chinese political figure attended the inauguration of a U.S president.
“The golden age of America begins right now,” President Trump said in his inaugural speech.
In his first hour as president, Trump signed 30 executive orders. The executive orders revoked many of the things former President Joe Biden did in office.
Trump is also threatening to buy Greenland, and according to the BBC, there are four ways it could go.
- Trump could lose interest, and nothing happens.
- Greenland could vote for independence from Denmark
- Trump steps up economic pressure.
- Trump invades Greenland.
Many people who live in Greenland are shocked by the amount of attention they are receiving from the rest of the world. USA Today says that Greenland wants independence from Denmark, but doesn’t feel that being taken over by the U.S. is a good idea.
Jasmine said that she agrees.
“I feel that Greenland shouldn’t be a part of the U.S.,” she said.
Dola Rapuru, 13, on the Voyagers team also feels the same.
“It is its own country,” Dola said. “Also the people there probably do not want to become captured by the U.S.”
Dylan said that Denmark will sell Greenland to America.
“I think that Denmark will sell Greenland to the U.S,” he said.

Trump also proposed a new Department, called the Department of Government Efficiency, headed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. It will act more as an advisory council for the government and according to Trump, stop fraudulent and wasteful expenditures.
The election that happened on Nov. 5, 2024, was a highly historical event.
Mr. Jerome Stack, a history teacher on the Legacy team, followed the election and was surprised that the results were announced so quickly.
“I was kinda surprised at the election,” Mr. Stack said, “I thought it would drag out for a while and that it would take longer to determine a winner.”
Trump was elected with overwhelming majority, 312 electoral votes(Trump) to 226(Harris)
Dylan thinks that Trump will do what he promised to, which includes the mass deportations.
“He did what he promised in 2016, Dylan said, “and I think that will stay the same in 2024.”
Mr. Stack says that in this situation, it is very hard to say exactly what will happen.
Mr. Stack said, “Well, see what happens.”
