Students and staff have high hopes for the new spring play, “James and the Giant Peach” as it arrives at RCMS on May 1-3.
“I have high hopes,” said James Gross, an eighth-grader on the Voyagers team.
James and Giant Peach is a play about a young boy named James who discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach. This play will cover the adventure that James and his insect friends will have after the peach rolls into the ocean.
Mrs. Christen Reddig, an RCMS chorus teacher who was in charge of the music for the play, was proud of all those auditions, and looks forward to checking out the play. She also shared the criteria of how they chose the roles of the characters.
“We looked for strength in acting,” Mrs. Reddig said, “people who step out of their comfort zone.”
Jasmine Wang, an eighth-grader on the Voyagers team, had tried out for the play and received the role of the ladybug. Jasmine said in her elementary school play, she chose to be backstage, so she is happy she gets to be onstage this time.
“From looking at the songs,” she said, “it’s going to be good.”
James Gross, an eighth-grader on the Voyager team, said his love for stage scenes started at 5 years old. When James presented his talent to others, he met some wonderful people. He said he likes to pretend he’s someone else and live a different life. He has high hopes for Mr. Mic Harmon, the drama teacher, to turn this into a great play.
“He is going to turn a script into a great play. Very excited,” James said. “I think it’s going to go really well.”
