Seventh- and eighth-graders competed in a volleyball tournament Dec. 4 in the RCMS main gym after school.
There were 25 teams from RCMS, and only two could be chosen for the face-off. The first 25 points wins the match then goes against the other teams. Teams had to be six to eight players to be able to qualify for the volleyball tournament.
In volleyball you have two teams that are separated by a net. To play you need basic skills to be able to play for example like serving, passing, spiking and blocking.
Rianna Elabdi, eighth-grader on the Explorers team, says that watching the volleyball tournament made her excited
“Once everyone started to cheer it made me excited,” Rianna said.
Deonyan LeNoir, eighth-grader, Wolves, says that being in a volleyball tournament is fun but can be scary.
“At first it was pretty intimidating but once I got warmed up it became really fun,” Deonyan said.
RCMS students played well in matches. It made Rianna want to play in a volleyball tournament.
“Yes, if I had the chance to play in a volleyball tournament I would because volleyball is my favorite sport and seeing people play in a volleyball tournament inspired me,” she said.
Volleyball can be a sport that connects families together. There’s over 800 million people who play volleyball worldwide.
Dr. Corinne Lagoy, special education teacher, says her three children play volleyball and that she loves volleyball tournaments.
“All three of my children played high school and club volleyball,” Dr. Lagoy said. “I have been to countless tournaments. I love them because they’re so exciting. There is always motion and the score is always changing. It’s fun to watch teams advance throughout the day.”
Supporting and watching your friends can be a big play in volleyball.
“Watching my friends play in a tournament was such a fun experience,” Kaylee Brazelton, eighth-grader, Wolves, said.
Playing volleyball can give you friendships with the same hobby interest as you.
“I met some friends at RCMS volleyball club and we always do volleyball together,” Deonyan said.
