The Virginia Readers’ Choice Book challenge is ending, and the celebration hosted in the library is coming up on April 25 — complete with food.
The party is by invitation only and is for students who have read and marked all 10 Virginia Readers’ Choice Books on the poster in the library. The party’s food hasn’t been decided on yet, but there will be a vote to see which book was most popular.
Some of the books are “The Lost Year,” “What Lives in the Woods,” and “Invisible,” among many others. The selection this year includes a variety of genres, like horror, action-adventure, and even two graphic novels.
According to Ms. Elizabeth Donovan, one of our librarians, the books this year have been very well-liked amongst the students.
“I think this year’s books have been one of the best lists in a while,” she said.
Virginia Readers’ choice (VRC for short) first started giving awards in the 1981-82 school year. Since then, it has adapted to include primary and elementary, middle, and high school-level books. The selections for each year are usually announced during the spring, with voting being held March 1- April 30.
