The Love Of Science
A club created by Sameeha Khan
Rachel Carson Middle School has a very diverse selection of after school clubs like debate team, TSA, and MUN, but there isn’t a club for science enthusiasts. That is why eighth grader Sameeha Khan created the Love of Science Club. Anyone with a passion for science and STEAM can join the club. Students in the club are able to teach others about interesting science topics through research and presentations. She says “RCMS was named after a scientist, so why don’t we have a STEAM based after school club?”
Sameeha wanted to inspire others to join STEAM activities at RCMS. The major clubs at Carson, such as debate, MUN, and TSA, didn’t have many STEAM elements. Sameeha said “My friends wanted a science club and so I decided to create one.”
In Love of Science, students will take up a subject that they are interested in and they will research and create a presentation about it. The Club will meet on Wednesday, from 2:30 to 3:30 in Ms. Votruba’s room, B109.
The members of the club will be recruiting students to join next year through an orientation. At the end of the year, they will hold a large seminar for anyone and an interest meeting for seventh graders. Club members will present their topics and research to the students. The interested students will receive guidance from club members to learn how to manage the club next year. Be sure to check out the Love of Science after school club!
