Library procedures change
As students adapt into in person school, library procedures are adapting as well. RCMS librarians are offering the options of online, library, and curbside checkout for the rest of the 2020-2021 school year.
Starting from March. 2, students have begun to go to in-person school and have started to go to the library. As we change into in-person school, there are some procedures students should know when they go to the library.
Firstly, our librarians Mr. Kirk Treakle and Mrs. Elizabeth Donovan recommended that students should place books on hold for numerous reasons, students can assure that their book will be there for them to pick up, Mr. Treakle and Mrs. Donovan also may come and deliver the books to them, and, for those virtual, can also come and pick it up very easily.
If students want to come to the library to look for books, they can go to the library during Panther Time, between classes or before school.
Students can put books on hold whether or not they are attending school in person. They can do this by going to the Google search bar and searching up “RCMS library” and clicking on the first tab that says Library, Rachel Carson Middle School. Once there, scroll down and click on “Find a Book in the Carson Library.” Then students can search up the book that they want. If it asks you to log in, click on the blue button that Fairfax County Public Schools and enter your school username and password. After you are logged in, just click the hold button.
For further instruction, go back to the Rachel Carson Middle School Library tab, and instead of clicking on the catalog, instead click on the button that says, “Visit the Carson Library Website,” then click on the tab that says “How to Videos.” There, students can find a video with Mrs. Donovan explaining how to put a hold on a book.
Once a book is on hold, virtual students can come pick it up Mondays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and in-person can pick it up as soon as the library has it, or the library can deliver books to in-person learners.
Books that are returned will be quarantined for 24 hours. Masks must be worn during curbside pickup. For more information, visit the RCMS Library Site or email the RCMS librarians.
