Students can take classes in core subject areas and elective this summer, or choose from programs in the arts or career and technical education.

Over the summer, students can take many different online or in-person programs through FCPS.

The summer student program is great for students who want to advance or need to retake a course. Students have to meet the prerequisites to take a course. Classes are available in every core subject area and some electives like world languages. Students can even take PE/health over the summer, so they get an extra elective period for the school year.

The summer course duration is one month long with one hour synchronous and six to seven hours of asynchronous work daily. The cost for the full month is $375 for Fairfax residents and $475 for non-residents. Dates vary during the summer.

FCPS also offers a CTE summer academy focusing on career and technical education classes for grades 7-11. Some classes that are offered are family and consumer sciences, health and medical studies, business, marketing, and technology. Classes are 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for three weeks in July. Weekly tuition costs $275.

If students are more interested in the arts, the Institute for the Arts is a two- or four-week program where students can choose from nearly 90 classes in art, dance, music, theater and more.
