Food and clothing drive at Rachel Carson contributes to community

RCMS is hosting a food and clothing drive to help our community members. The donations can be placed in the tubs found at door 1 from Oct. 11 until Oct. 15.

Carson is accepting any new or lightly used clothing, preferably coats and hoodies, unexpired nonperishable items such as canned goods, as well as gift cards.

This is an annual drive that occurs at Carson, and organizers are hoping to collect items to provide for the school and its families, said Ms. Courtney Krsmanovic, school social worker.

This drive has been hosted for four or five years, but Covid-19 put a stop to the drive last year because of the unknown factors of the virus. As everyone gets back on track, the families who are in need of clothing and food have been receiving fewer donations. Ms. Krsmanovic says the school is hoping for a larger donation than before to make up for last year and help the community.

To battle any germs on clothing, all items will be washed, cleaned, and sanitized as well as quarantined in boxes for a few weeks. The preferred things to donate are hoodies and/or coats, winter necessities such as hats, gloves, etc., and gift cards.
