New volleyball club founded

A volleyball club was founded here at Rachel Carson Middle School on Sept 16. The club was founded by Janie Hesse, 12, of Herndon, who wanted a place to play volleyball and have fun.

Volleyball club meetings will be held in the gym during B Block on Mondays. At the meetings, members will play and practice volleyball. A lot of the members are beginners with little to no experience.

“The club would be good for beginners because a lot of people have no experience,” Janie says.

To join the club, you have to sign up with Ms. Cho every week.

“We had like 40 people show up to the first practice and now we’re only allowing 12 seventh-graders and 12 eighth-graders,” Hesse says. Hence why they have to sign up every week.

The club has a goal to become more of a team and start playing against other schools. However, this is more of a long term goal. “A good bit of us don’t have experience — our current priority is to get better,” Janie says.

Janie is very optimistic about the club.

“I have really high hopes for this club and really want it to be big,” she says.
