Spring SOL schedule finalized

The spring 2022 SOL schedule has been finalized by FCPS as of February 2022. The SOLs will take place during the month of May at RCMS for both seventh and eighth grade. Seventh grade will take a reading SOL and a math SOL, and eighth grade will take SOLs on both of those topics plus science.

This year’s schedule is below:

  • Science 8: Friday, May 6
  • Reading 8: Tuesday, May 10
  • Reading 7: Thursday, May 12
  • Algebra 1 or Geometry: Monday, May 16,
  • Math 7, Math 7 Honors, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 2: Wednesday, May 18
  • Makeups: Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20

SOL stands for Standards of Learning, and all students in Virginia from third grade upwards are required to take them. They tell the state how schools are doing compared to other schools and themselves in previous years, and what everyone needs to work on. The questions in the SOLs are composed of everything a student should know given their grade level.

FCPS did not have SOLs during the 2019-2020 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. SOLs were optional in 2020-2021 and were held in person for those who chose to take them.

This year, the application called TestNav will be used for the assessments. Students can access the Practice Items in TestNav to assist them with being familiar with the tools and format associated with the SOLs.

According to the FCPS website, parents have the option to opt out their child from the SOL test, if they wish.
