Top mathletes from RCMS compete in Mathcounts competition
The top 12 mathletes selected from RCMS competed in the Mathcounts chapter competition on Feb. 17.
They took part in the competition through the AoPS Mathcounts portal in room B208 after school.
Mathcounts is for sixth to eighth grade students who have interest in Mathcounts and would like to experience more challenging problems. The problems are composed of algebra, geometry, and
probability, but with a variety of different types within the three categories.
Mathcounts has three rounds. The sprint round has 30 questions, each question has 1 point,
and there is a 40 minute time limit to do the questions; the target round has four sets of questions, each set composed of two questions, each question has two points, and each set has a 6 minute time limit. The team round has 10 questions with a 20 minute time limit, and it is completed by the top four of the 12 students, who work as a team to compete against other schools’ teams.
The top students from each chapter go to a designated place to complete the individual state
competition in May. Next, the top four students from each state go to a designated place to complete both the individual and the team national competition on May 7-10. Only one student would be able to win the individual national competition, and only one team would be able to win the team national competition.
