Students receive 2023 Regional Scholastic Art Awards

Three RCMS students received art awards from the 2023 Regional Scholastic Art Awards Program this January for their submissions, which are on display at the Northern Virginia Community College’s Ernst Community Cultural Center through March 23.

The RCMS students all submitted artworks to the drawing and illustration category. They won two silver key awards and one gold key award, making them eligible to compete nationally against other artworks.

Fairfax County Public Schools students received a total of 533 awards from the 2023 Regional Scholastic Art Awards: 174 Gold Keys, 171 Silver Keys, and 188 Honorable Mentions. Four of these were nominated for the best-in-show American Visions Award.

The Scholastic Art Awards Program, established in 1923, has become the largest and longest running recognition program of its kind in the US. More than 200,000 young artists across the nation participate in this program.

National awards, announced on March 22, will be on display in New York City later in the year. These are eligible for scholarships which are given in a variety of categories, including works that celebrate individual differences and artworks on current events.
