Cherry blossom festival approaches as flowers make an early appearance
The National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC is right around the corner, commencing on March 18, as the cherry blossoms bloom early this year all around the Potomac area.
This yearly event that is opened to the public will take place March 18-April 16. This festival consists of multiple events celebrating the beautiful cherry blossoms. Some of these events include the Opening Ceremony, Blossom Kite Festival, Pedalpalooza and the Festival Parade.
The most popular events are the Blossom Kite Festival and the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. The Blossom Kite Festival is a free event that is going to take place on March 25, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Various displays and performances of kites and traditional Japanese music will be demonstrated to the public.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade on April 15, from 10 a.m. to noon, will take place on Constitution Avenue NW, between 7th and 17th Streets. Tickets can be purchased, with prices varying depending on the street.
With the trees blooming early, it is estimated that most flower petals might be gone by April.
The Yoshino green bud stage has already taken place in most cherry trees. This is showing that the cherry blossom trees will bloom early this year. The green bud stage hasn’t happened this early in more than 20 years. The earliest they have ever bloomed was March 15, 1990.
