Pimple patches: A new craze

Pimple patches are a popular new craze at Rachel Carson, but do they work? Why do people wear them?

Pimple patches are small patches people put on their acne to help heal and reduce acne in the area the sticker is placed. They come in many shapes and sizes, Starface, a popular pimple patch brand, has patches that are often shaped like stars and come in many colors. Others are more low-key, most are circular and appear to be almost invisible when placed on the skin. Pimple patches are made with hydrocolloid, hydrocolloid absorbs excess fluid which flattens acne.

“Acne patches work only for superficial acne and are not for deep, large, cystic acne.” Dr Sneha Ghunawat, the co- founder of Meraki Skin Clinic stated in an interview with Hindustan times.

Meenal Nagappan, a student on the voyagers team states:

“I think it depends on the brand but some work really well and others not so much,” She says. “The ones I use are mighty patches and they actually work really well.”

But others have some different opinions.

Cannon Berejik, an eighth-grader on the wolves team is confused about the process of pimple patches.

“I don’t even think they work, do they? They’re just supposed to stop you from touching them right? If anything, don’t they make acne worse by keeping all the oil there?” Cannon says.

But do students even wear them because they work? Or is it because it adds style to their look for the day?

Meenal is fine with students wearing them to school, saying,

“I don’t  really care, I mean if they have pimples then sure.”

Juju Shrestha, a seventh-grader on the majestics team says,

“I don’t know, I just wear them really randomly because they’re cute.”
